Over the next few posts I’m going to look at a technology that’s growing in popularity across the web: RSS.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It allows websites to provide lists of their latest articles which can be read by software. If you have an RSS reader, you can subscribe to websites that use RSS and your software will check for updates and alert you when a new article is available.

Here’s a summary of the Joy Of RSS series:

Part 1: Introduction To RSS – This first article looks at the benefits of RSS to you, explores the growing number of popular websites using RSS and also looks at the benefits to website owners of providing RSS feeds.

Part 2: RSS Readers And Subscriptions – In our second article, we look at a range of RSS reader software for subscribing to RSS. There is also information on how to find out if a site publishes an RSS feed.

Part 3: The Technology Behind RSS – This article completes our series by looking at the technology that makes RSS tick.

First post will be online later today.
